The history of Hummel Christmas Ornaments
Hummel figurines and collectibles were the vision of Berta Hummel, a famous German artist. She was also known as nun Maria Innocentia Hummel. She is most famous for the artwork which became the Hummel figurines. But, her artwork didn't begin as porcelein figurines.
Hummel Porcelein Figurines
Her artwork began as postcards, until Franz Goebel, the owner of a porcelain company started creating figurines based upon it. Maria Hummel died at age 37 from tuberculosis. She was buried in her convent's cemetery. Her art lives on today through Goebel's figurines and ornaments.
